A 30-day moving checklist for a Kerala house shift

30 days before

• Book the survey and fix the date in writing.
• Tell your apartment association — most need a week's notice for a service-lift slot.
• Decide what is not travelling: sell, donate or scrap it now, because you pay to move volume.
• If you are claiming reimbursement, tell us so we issue an IBA approved bill.

14 days before

• Cancel or transfer gas connection, broadband and newspaper.
• Collect school and medical records.
• Start using up food in the fridge and the store cupboard.
• Photograph anything valuable or fragile — a dated photo settles any argument later.

7 days before

• Confirm the lift slot and the parking spot for the truck at both ends.
• Set aside an 'open first' box: chargers, medicines, a change of clothes, basic tools, toilet paper.
• Back up your computers.
• Arrange cash or UPI for the advance payment on loading day.

1 day before

• Defrost the fridge — it must be dry, or it will smell by the time it lands.
• Keep jewellery, documents and cash with you, never in the truck.
• Charge your phone. Loading day is a phone-heavy day.
• Keep the signed inventory sheet with you, not in a box.
